Effect of using reporting guidelines during peer review on quality of final manuscripts submitted to a biomedical journal: masked randomised trial

Recently published on the BMJ.

In this masked randomised trial, the authors looked at the effect of an additional  review based on reporting guidelines on the quality of the manuscripts. STROBE was mainly used in the vast majority of assessments

The authors found out that additionally reviewing the manuscripts using reporting  guidelines might help improving manuscripts quality. However, they indicated that observed effect was smaller than hypothesised and not definitely demostrated.
